Karl Peter Mazer

Karl Peter Mazer (1807 - 1884) was active/lived in Sweden.  Karl Mazer is known for Portraiture in oil, pencil sketches, and photography.

Karl Peter Mazer was a Swedish artist who lived in the 19th century. He was the half-brother of musician Johan Mazer and studied at the art academy before traveling to Paris in 1825 to study at Antoine-Jean Gro's studio. Mazer was politically engaged and participated in the 1830 revolution in France, where he made pencil sketches of the battles on the barricade. He is known for his deep psychological insight in his portraits, which can be compared to Ernst Josephson's. Mazer's most famous portraits include those of Jonas Love Almqvist and his daughter Maria. He also traveled to Finland, where he portrayed J.L. Runeberg, and to Russia, where he painted literary greats such as A. Pushkin, N. Gretj, and Krylov. In 1849, he went to Eastern Siberia to document the Russian-Chinese border trade and executed portraits of representatives of the various peoples he came into contact with.
